Case Studies

Our work in rail and material handling enables us to locate appropriate persons. On many occasions, there is only a handful of qualified persons throughout the entire country for a client requirement. We must find out who these people are, where they are, contact them and discuss the position, all hopefully leading to a successful hire from among them.

Coast Engine & Equipment Company

Coast Engine & Equipment is in the business of reconstructing diesel and steam locomotives. They required an engineer/foreman for their operation in Tacoma, WA.

Since much of their work was with short line, tourist, or logging operations locomotives, a recruiter was faced with a severely limited number of prospects, due to the increasingly curtailed nature of the industry and the diminishing number of companies involved in it. We came up with only a half-dozen competitors.

We located a handful of prospects, none of whom panned out. Salary, relocation, company loyalty and just plain inertia were the main reasons.

Finally, we unearthed a resume of a seasoned individual in Saskatchewan, Canada!

Coast Engine was reluctant to hire an immigrant, but finally capitulated when they realized the right person could not be located in the U.S.

An immigration lawyer in NYC handled the negotiations — involving passports, fees, etc. and three months after the search began, the Canadian veteran moved to Tacoma, WA and commenced work.

Metrovil ACL, Inc.

A small, privately-owned bus company operating in Mato Rey, Puerto Rico, Metrovil needed an Operations Manager for their San Juan routes—with the stipulation that he/she be “bus experienced” but bi-lingual (Spanish-English) as well!

An exhaustive search of bus operators — large, medium and small, throughout the U.S. produced several prospects, none of whom were bi-lingual! Finally, about to give up, we discovered a young, bi-lingual man with a brilliant record working with a private bus line in San Antonio, TX! Would he move to PR if hired? “Questionable”, he declared. He was cajoled, though, into flying to San Juan for an interview. One thing led to another, and he landed the job.

Logic won out! Where would bi-lingual (Spanish-English) bus professionals most likely be found? In the border States, naturally.

Molemaster Services

Molemaster Services of Marietta, OH are manufacturers of silo-cleaning devices for use by farmers, growers and ranchers.

Several years ago, they needed a a salesman with first-hand knowledge of farmers and their needs, who would relish combing the countryside for possible customers and close a deal with one sales call.

Molemaster preferred someone who could make the calls but also design and configure the products back at the Marietta manufacturing facility.

We could find no one with these twin aptitudes. After two months of scouring the midwest for prospects, we located a seasoned farm implements salesperson, with limited technical ability but a voluble, upbeat, direct communicator who thrived on making cold calls. Molemaster signed him up immediately!
